Jim - "Supposedly Nixon knew of ballot stuffing in Chicago for Kennedy by Daly. Supposedly he also knew of some stuffing for him on the other side of Chicago. Was this why he never challenged it?"

The story was that the R's stuffed boxes downstate and Mayor Daley stuffed the boxes in Chicago. Mayor Daley would not release some Chicago ballot boxes until downstate showed its witheld boxes first.

It was show me yours before I show you mine... and Daley won that battle.

No one was ever really sure but the smart money said that the action on both sides balanced about even.
