I would agree with you if this were about 500 or a thousand or two thousand or even three thousand ballots -- I would feel that it's just a matter of "too bad" -- but we're talking about potentially 22,000 (twenty-two thousand) votes. That's not just an unfortunate mistake, that's a sizable portion of the county being deprived of their vote.

I hate to see this decided in the courts too, that's hardly a mandate for Gore. On the other hand, however, to lose the popular vote nationwide and to win the electoral vote under a questionable accounting would be an equally ineffective mandate for Bush.

Considering this choice, I think we're better off with a legal rather than "common sense" decision.
