This is a post from Stephen Wall.... a good friend of mine who posts here occasionally...... well done hawkerp ;-) Why should we protect people from themselves & allow them to determine the outcome of a presidential election?

re:Voters are United States citizens with citizen rights.

And with those rights comes the freedom and the duty to act responsibly; to be informed. Some chose not to. That ballot was published, mailed out. What is so hard about asking someone days or weeks before hand if confused? Doing a little homework? The outrage, ex post facto, is in inverse proportion to the lack of preparation beforehand. Is it this countries responsibility to always forgive the ill-prepared?

Maybe in the future the voting public will consider it their civic responsibility to be better informed and prepared. Then there will be no need for this lily-livered whining, as if their rights had been taken away for not voting responsibly. With freedom, comes obligation. In modern America, this sense of civic responsibility seems lost. Its all about me and my violated rights.

I would suggest all the citizens of Palm Beach get a copy of Emerson's Self-Reliance and keep it by their bedside table.
