This was said at the analyst conf today. Yes, definitely not in sales. I don't see the point of downbinning parts. Why not mark 'em as they come out and lower the price of the high-end chips if you can't sell them all?

I mean, if Compaq says they want 100,000 800 MHz Athlon's for $100 each, why not say, "Sorry, our lowest speed is 1 GHz and the price is $110." Do you think they'll walk away?

EDIT - I think they'll say "Give us 150,000!"
