the tragedy of the situation now is that there is simply no way for it to be truly fair, no matter what happens from here on in--unless by some miracle Gore actually beats Bush in the official FL recount.

I mean, it's clear that enough people were misled by the ballot in PB so that the FL vote count did not reflect the true preferences of the people who voted in FL. That's not fair. But all the remedies, unfortunately, are even more unfair. So the question is, as usual, less about absoluts than about relatives.
