As I believe you know, I was named after my great... great, great, great, etc...grandfather, Roger Sherman. He was a member of the "gang of five" of the founding fathers of the United States, which also included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and R.R. Livingston (whoever he was). They were appointed by the "United Colonies" Congress to draft the Declaration of Independence. He also was the only one who was a signer of not only the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, (one other major "founding" document I can't remember at the moment), and was also a major player in the Constitutional Convention drafting (and a signer of) the US Constitution. In fact, after many weeks of fighting between the parties, he went home one night (probably after a few beers), and created the very first draft of the Constitution's Bill of Rights. True story. In fact good old Ben Franklin shrewdly seized on a another idea proposed by my namesake (Roger Sherman), who first proposed (in an earlier debate) that each state should have an equal vote in the upper house, and a proportional representation in the lower house. Now, I'm not sure if he had anything to do with this darn Electoral College thing, although I'm sure he had a hand in it somehow. I'll have to go back to my family's history books to check. If he did, I'll probably never forgive him, and take his picture down from our genealogy photo collection, just down the hall...next to the bathroom. <g> Me, I don't know a d*mn thing about politics. I just draw pretty pictures all day, but it keeps me off the streets. <g> And as you also well know, I'll defend to the death you're right to be (completely) wrong...politically. <ggg>
