Fred Thornell said this morning that his company had no idea the California and Montana companies planned to use or sell the chemical for illegal purposes. "Absolutely not," he said. "We've been selling the product for 10 years." Pseudoephedrine, Fred Thornell explained, is a (legal) chemical typically used in products such as Mini-Thins, an over-the-counter type of anti-sleep pill. "You can get it at any convenience store in the United States. You can go down to the Mobil Station and get a bottle of it," Thornell said. "We sold it to a gentlemen who services 4,000 convenience stores." Thornell explained that because TNT is a wholesale operation, it had a license to distribute large amounts of legal chemicals such as pseudoephedrine. It was the companies that bought the chemicals, Thornell said, who made the illegal move by selling to the meth lab. It's TNT's position that they were an unknowing party to what was going on once they sold the chemical.
