"The bad news is that "Gore's lawyers are at the moment eyeing Broward County, where there
are 4,000 ballots in Gore country where elderly voters did not press down
hard enough on the punches to record the vote -- but where a hand-recount
with magnifying glasses might be able to detect the indentation."

Believe it or not, there is a whole body of law dealing with this subject -- how to determine whether a partially punched selection counts as a vote. Where it it is a square punch place, it depends on whether two or three of the corners are detached from the card. It could end up with a judge looking at each card. More than you ever wanted to know about the finer details of the democratic process.

Dear KM: That is prepostorous, what if it means someone RESTED the pin on the page and then changed their mind? I dont see how they can count anything based upon an INDENTATION. This is the VERY REASON why LAWYERS should not be allowed to interfer. They will come out with a THOUSAND reasons for any side, hey if the Shoe doesnt fit you must acquit!!
In my judgement the MOST serious thing was the media announcing Fla. for Gore EVEN BEFORE THE POLLS CLOSED in the area where a STRONG Bush majority lives. As a result MANY of them left lines and went home figuring no use to vote. Local radio says a great number of suits may be filed in Pensacola. The bottom line is this: Irregularities are everywhere and of every kind and they are Nation wide. I dont see how you can single out one or two counties which JUST HAPPEN to have Dem. majorities and demand a revote or read something into the ballots that isnt there. JDN
