The first part of a bull market tends to be measured in linear; the latter part, the blow-off phase, tends to be measured in log. By that traditional metric, we have been in the blow-off phase since 1995. I don't know what that means for an eventual downside target, should this be the end of the bull market; that's anyone's guess. Recheck my previous message; I added an '84 log chart. I don't know what the SPX's annual return since '82 is counting this year, but it was 18% at the end of last year; not sustainable on a long-term basis. I would assume the 84 log trendline could present a much more sustainable advance.
