I quite agree with you. Most people in the US do not appreciate how much freedom and justice we do have. Of course, that is what allows us to seek even more justice. As for "mass confusion", I think we can set a number on that, out of 400,000 ballots, about 20,000 were "confused", if that is "mass" or not, I know not. What does concern me is that is not the first time, in 1996 they had a similar confusion, but no one bothered to do anything about it since with or without the confusion the outcome would have been the same. Here, with pre overseas ballots a mere 300 votes out of 6 MM cast, may get the responsible parties to do something about that confusion. I surely would not want to be the one deciding the outcome.

Dave:
RE how many Palestinian lives would have been saved

I read Zeev's post and thought how clumsy his port was.
All I can add to this meager discussion is that my wife came up with the analogy of the US vs the native Americans in 19th century. You have your 1st world / 3rd world total misunderstands of each others desires and the concept of the promise land for Israel which is a lot like the concept of eminent domain for the US.

I guess Australia's and South Africa's conflicts with their native peoples in the 19th Century are similar in some regards.
In the end, 1st world always wins out over 3rd world. However, the victors are embodied with permanent guilt feelings because they implemented their dominance in our imperfect world in a manner that belies all the admirable human qualities we believe we posess as children of God.
