No, but it politicians have to try to earn/gain votes and football teams have to try to earn/gain yards.

It is obvious that you are not pleased with sports being compared with politics, you will, and can always find something wrong with an analogy being compared between the two. It will almost never be an exact match, it seems you may not like analogys at all, which is fine. An Analogy is used to compare two different events, if the events were exactly the same it probably would not be worth making the analogy in the first place.
