Ted Re..This AM, the Bush camp said the counting was done, Bush is the President-elect and they want to begin the transition process.....but big bad Gore won't let them.<<<<<<<<

I heard Baker's speech and I didn't hear anything about Bush starting a transition. Baker just talked about all of the recounts. He said that they were waiting for the overseas ballots; but all this talk about hand recounts and further lawsuits would hurt the country. He asked several times how often one needs to do a recount. As far as he was concerned, the official count should be the count come up with yesterday plus the overseas ballots. Thgat is how it was done before and that is how it should be done now.

Given the info we have at this point, I believe this election was not run honestly at least in FL.

Only Jessie is trying to scream dishonesty. Both sides basically agree the election was honest. Daly is trying to argue the ballots in PB were confusing, and thus Al should have gotten more votes than GW would have gotten. In addition Daly is trying to claim that the normal means of recourse just won't do here; primarily because the election hang in the balance. But if the election wasn't hanging in the balance you can bet that that is exactly what would be done; just as it has always been done in the past. 15000 ballots were thrown out in the 1996 elections, but I didn't hear about Jessie trying to start a riot then.

If I were in the position of the Republicans, I would chill and let the process resolve the matter.

Both sides need to chill. They are playing with fire, and it just may start to rage out of control.

Instead, they are in a great rush to push aside the matter and get their hands on the White House...that's what I call stinking up the joint.

If the matter you are talking about is the 19000 votes, that is precisely what should be done. Just as many football games are settled by a refs call, this should be settled the same way it has been in the past; no matter how close the election. And you freely admit that any re-vote would be unfair so why do it? One of these two guys should be magmaneous, concede and let the country get on with its life. Personally, no matter who loses the recount and overseas ballot, it should be over. But if AL loses recount and still wants to go into a legal quagmire, then GW should be the magmaneous one and concede. If Al is president, the the republican gov. of Maine will likely chose a republican senator to replace Lieberman; and the 50-50 tie in the senate will be 51-49 republicans. GW will be looked upon as the guy who saved the republic and AL will have a hard time doing anything without a mandate and Republican houses. Both had better be careful of what they wish for.
