<<I am not familiar with the demographics of Palm Beach but what i have read the designer of said ballot is a democrat >>

You are right, don't believe the anti-republican tripe which incorretly labels them as who broke the las with that ballot. It was all a ploy to get all votes for Pat given to their guy.

Please note, the same type "butterfly ballot" was used in Cook County IL & falls into a contested case where the republicans are the loosers:
Butterfly Ballot Not a Big Problem Everywhere

Charleston, WV (CNSNews.com) - The "butterfly" ballot, currently under intense national scrutiny in Florida, is similar to ballots used in several counties in West Virginia and it is nearly identical to the one used in Cook County, Illinois, home to Gore campaign chairman William Daley. In the 12 West Virginia counties that use a butterfly ballot, voters also punch circles to mark the candidate of their choice, and there have been no complaints, said Deputy West Virginia Secretary of State Jan Casto. She said she doesn't fully understand the problem Palm Beach County, Florida voters had with their butterfly ballot. "We have a very knowledgeable society. I mean, they use VCRs, computers, and recording equipment. We're talking about a very technologically sophisticated society," said Casto.
