O.K. guys, have at it. In a burst of irrational exuberance two years ago, I boldly predicted that T would be forced to drop TDMA and embrace the one, true religion. Given the tenor of those deliriously wonderful times, I think I also prognosticated that the conversion would happen in about the next hour or so.
As usual, the techno-flame arrows began falling from the skies before the ink on the post was dry. Among them was a typically acerbic response from our fun loving 'engineer' who intoned that such a conversion would be a non-starter since the cost would be prohibitive.
So what's changed? Would a CDMA roll-out somehow be less expensive today that was the case 24 months ago? Or is it now the case that whatever the cost, T has no choice if they want to be competitive in broadband wireless? Let the flames begin. SM
PS: the sight of Armstrong on the TDMA funeral pyre is probably not too ludicrous to contemplate--T would be just dumb enough to sacrifice a guy who had absolutely nothing to do with the original wireless platform choice.
