Well there's nothing to say that all institutions are right headed either. Lets be honest, buying strong stocks in an uptrending market does not take a lot of brains to be right.

For the most part, all they need to do is beat the market averages - even when both are going down - many folks will look at a losing fund and justify it with comments like 'well it beat the average at least'.

As individual traders, we can be smarter. More nimble.

Look at all the stock blow ups this year. I'm sure in the days immediately preceding many of these blow ups, there were plenty, plenty, of institutions in there doing their buying (mostly fundamental based). "Buy it when you can, not when you have to". "Average down". "Buy for the long term".

How many of them will admit to being caught?

No, they are in it for the long term LOL!
