god, you are argumentative!

"Do you really mean me when you use the word "you" in the sentence? Why should I evaluate the trade using some entry point other than my own?"

If YOU are measuring YOUR performance, use your trade. If YOU are measuring BOB's performance, YOU use the entry point he defines.

"The words "have to" in your post made me think. A cottage industry seems to have sprung forth centered around evaluating Bob's advice. Some people have certainly made money by evaluating Bob's advice. It's also fun to evaluate Bob's advice, IMO. But do we "have to" evaluate Bob's advice?"

Performance measurement seems pretty fundamental. I like to see if following Bob's advice is helping me come out ahead or loosing money for me. To me, it all comes down to beating the market. Who wants to buy a loosing stock, or a loosing fund, or follow someone who dispenses bad advice? We are all trying to maximize our return. Bob always compares funds to the S&P500...same thing? What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Every financial publication compares fund performance...it is the foundation of investing.

"For some, the answer is probably yes. Some people are so personally involved with criticizing or supporting Bob's advice that it has developed into a personal mania, and thus, the words "have to" take on a psychological meaning."

I think you are reading too much into the words. I have always been a supporter of Bob. However, this last newsletter was too much for me.

"You mention that the analysis has the potential to "be subjective." I agree with that general idea. However, using my entry point of precisely $76.25 plus a negligible commission for my assessment will force me to be quantitative in my analysis."

Again, if you are measuring YOUR performance, that is great. If you are measuring BOB's performance, that entry point does not reflect his advice.
