He said that the votes have been counted and recounted according to law. Everyone should wait for the foreign votes to be counted. But at that point, we should all respect the vote. He said exactly that if Gore insists on pursuing these other claims and avenues, then they would have no choice but to respond in kind - to call for recounts in the states of Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nex Mexico, for example. "We cannot then sit on our hands." He also recollected the 1960 Nixon loss, in which there was a tremendous push to call for a recount, but Nixon took the high ground and conceded. So far, James Baker and Republicans are taking the high ground, and avoiding politicizing the whole thing. But if the Dems start bringing in the lawyers, they will have no choice but to fight back.
