Ted,

Remember I expressed a need for updated equipment yesterday. The news programs are catching up with me. <g>

But new equipment isn't a panacea. My county had fairly new computerized equipment in the '98 election. There were screw ups and equipment problems with the ballot counts. The NV Senate election was a squeaker (~500 vote difference). After three weeks and numerous hand recounts, they finished. There were some smirks around the country that we were taking so long to complete the count.

For this election, they purchased different computerized machines and had intensive training for poll workers. Results: smooth election and very mellow voter registrar. <g>

So people are just as important as the machines.

Dave

BTW - The Constitution Party plans to contest the dead man win in MO. Precedents are being set.
