Dan Re..the Republicans haven't exactly been shy about practicing politics via litigation in the past few years. <<<

I am not sure what you are talking about here. I assume you are talking about the special prosecuoers and Whitwater, travelgate, Monice, Paula Jones. White house Bedrooms investigations. First of all, the special prosecutor law was passed by the democratic congress and signed into law by Bill himself. Janet Reno along with three judges approved of the investigations. Reno or the judges appointed Starr, not the republican congress, and the special prosecutor answered primarily to Reno and the judges, not congress. Why is it congress's fault Bill was involved all of those things. Secondly, when Starr reported to congress, it was their duty to look at the evidence and vote to impeach or not. Are you saying congress should have ignored their duty? The senate decided not to carry out impeachment, so they also did their duty. I can't see why you have such a problem with that. George Bush Sr. was also investigated by a special prosecutor. However, instead of fighting the special prosecutor, George complied completely with all of the prosecutors requests for info, and eventually was found innocent. And by complying, George also kept the investigation out of the news; such that now nobody remembers George actually was under investigation. The same could have happened for Bill if he would have made half an effort to comply with the investigations.

Re. The elections they were contesting weren't anywhere near as close as this one, either. <<

AFAIK the Kennedy election was just as close in ILL. and several other states. In addition, the republicans had evidence of fraud in the balloting in Ill. Whether Nixon just wanted to be magnanimous or had his own reasons for not persueing the matter, I do not know, but that election was just as close. Besides, it doesn't make any difference how close the election is, as long as you play by the rules. Now the Dems want to change the rules; by importing legions of lawyers, and having Jessie start a riot. And that is your version of fair? The rules of the game should have been changed before the game. Not after you lost.
