Voided cards are not discarded. The visual sampling is going on this weekend. There will be some cards with a dent and a full punch. That is statistical very likely. It's a pretty irrational arguement to assume that a dented choice & a fully punched choice does not clearly indicate a voters intent to choose the fully punched choice.

If the local election board determines there is evidence that a visual count will give a truer count of actual votes than they have the right to perform a manual count. The supervisor of elections indicated a full manual count will take a week or so. But as with anything else, the Bush team has the right to go to court and try to prevent the manual count. Rich

Re the election. Re the discarding of ballots. Remember, when you vote your name is checked off on the list of registered voters. All ballots are kept because the number of actual cards must match the number of registered voters checked off - the actual cards and the list of registered voters must be kept together and the numbers must match in order to verify fraud has not been committed.

As to reliability of the process. Keep in mind we are dealing with 99.994% accuracy. Rarely would this level of accuracy make a difference in an election. As I noted Mass, did have this issue arise and banned punch card ballots. Rich.

Duke of URL ...RE: "The intent of the people must be EXPRESSED to be honored."

Quite correct!

Interesting how people who allegedly can't punch a
card are savvy and agile enough to hire attorneys
and file a lawsuit within hours of the election.
