Early voting tallies released today by the clerk in New Mexico's largest county narrowed the gap between Republican George W. Bush and Democrat Al Gore to 164, with Gore in the lead in the presidential race. (Alb Journal)

She said election workers would look for the ballots in the county warehouse where the votes were tallied.
"It could well be that those ballots were within that warehouse, (and someone) just put them on a stack instead of being . . . put with the hand-held tally," Baca said.
"We're going to look under every stone, and we want to make sure everything is accounted for," county elections manager Robert Lucero said at a 2 a.m. news conference. "Our goal is to have 100 percent accuracy."

The press seems to like the underdogs. The manual re-counts are making Bush the underdog in the vote in that area.
