Paragoncomp:

850MHz Athlon: $170.95
Abit KT7-RAID: $143.95
Total: $314.9

850MHz PIII: $258.95
Abit BX133-RAID: $112.95
Total: $371.9

Difference: $57

Ok, this is certainly a bigger difference than the first example, but we're not talking $100. We ARE talking less than 20%. That you may be able to find specials, where the pricing is different, doesn't really say a whole lot. Look at large, standard shops and check their pricing.

Either way, my original point was just that SocketA motherboards are, in general, priced significantly above Socket370 motherboards and that this fact is putting major pressure on the price of AMD processors. When motherboard prices come down, AMD will be able to charge a relatively higher price for its products.
