I think I agree with everything you've said [with maybe the exception of the wacked-out-her-mind judge]. The only thing I would add is a quote [probably paraphrased] from an old movie, "For Justice to be done, it must also be seen to be done"

Absolutely, here in MD, when you vote, there is a rust colored card that you sign at the time you get your ballot. That card notes that you have picked up your ballot and is retained separately from the ballot box. It does note the ballot number that you received.

After you vote, you also get a stub as your receipt of proof that you voted ballot #xxxxxxx.

In other words, there are TWO ways to verify that a. I picked up a ballot and b. actually voted.

Now, I know FL is a laid back state, but I am sure they have some similar verification process available.
