[OT]Barry - I completely agree.

In fact, your post reminded me just how cooperative Nixon was during his time of crisis and how he agreed to step aside when the first hint of impropriety arose.

In 1972.

Your phrase, 'a greater willingness to part from the truth or principles to reach a desired state' could have been emblazoned on Dick's forehead.

[And the transparency of Reagan/Regan/Baker(!) during Iran/Contra was truly comforting. A real lesson in civics and ethical behavior....]

Sorry guy. The current histrionics prove that BOTH sides distort the facts, intentionally and disgustingly. This is known as ‘human behavior’ and has been occurring for quite some time...and these particular facets become manifest in clearest relief in politics, religion, and around the dinner table.

Why should we be so surprised by behavior that everyone does every day. For example, your post...

OT -- I think selective memory is what is at work here. I'm not saying that you're trying to distort the facts on purpose. But it is human nature to remember the further events more favorably.

Gingrich, Hyde, and co didn't have much of choice but to shut up after taking such a high moral ground on Clinton/Monica fiasco. Even though Henry Hyde tried to convince us he was a "kid" in his 50s. What I found very disgusting was that these people gave themself the moral authority to drag the Presidency of the country through mud when they themself were as guilty. Couldn't they have at least found an clean person for this?

I am not a democrat. I hated Carter and when Reagan took over I was happy. I really don't think sleaziness is the domain of one party alone. Looking at the events of the past 20 years, it seems to me that the Republicans screwed around with the national and international affairs Iran/Contra, Covert Ops, ballooning national debt, etc and then they tried to brush it under the rug. But the Democrats mostly screwed around and tried to get away with it. Given a choice, I'd go with the latter.
