President Bush is picking his cabinet.

Bush Cabinet selections telegraphed

TELEGRAPHING THEIR assumption that the recount in Florida will confirm Bush’s victory there, sources close to the Republican candidate said Wednesday he had selected:
Retired Gen. Colin Powell, who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Bush’s father, to be secretary of state.

Condoleezza Rice, a Stanford University provost and foreign policy expert, as his national security adviser.
Former Transportation Secretary Andrew Card to be his chief of staff.

Dick Cheney, Bush’s running mate, has been selected to head the transition team, said the sources, speaking on condition of anonymity.

GOP CONVENTION ROLES

It has long been expected that Powell and Rice would have posts in a Bush administration — both have advised Bush throughout the campaign and were prominently featured speakers at the Republican convention in Philadelphia.
