Architectural changes have been fairly small since the original Pentium was introduced. A few new instructions were added for 3DNow! and SSE, but the fundamental x86 architecture has not changed in quite some time.

AMD is going to introduce a 64 bit architecture in a year or two, but Intel has not announced any significant architectural modifications for the foreseeable future.
