In every country except Palm Beach the presidential candidates were vertically aligned with the mark on the right. So the vertical alignment instead of the butterfly is "pactical".

It is probably correct that "all on the left" or "all on the right" are permitted. But things are different with the interleaving of the butterfly ballot. It is error prone and there are practical alternatives - the way it was done in the rest of the state, all on one side.
