DENVER (CBS.MW) -- Three years of exceptional asset growth are now behind them, Janus management conceded Tuesday.
"We now need to recognize that the top-line growth that we've seen at Janus over the last few years is likely to be gone forever," marketing chief Stuart Novek wrote in an internal memo late last summer but more widely distributed last month, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The same high-growth style of investing that brought investors to the firm during the heady days of the technology boom is now scaring them off as the market continues to pummel the Nasdaq. As of Friday, 12 of Janus' 14 funds were down for the year, according to the Journal.

The Stilwell Financial (SV: news, msgs) unit, which saw assets bloom to $300 billion from just $100 three years earlier, witnessed withdrawals of roughly $700 million in October -- its second consecutive month of outflow following 32 consecutive months of money pouring in.

LIG, I for one have not predicted the fund outflows since NASDAQ 5000. I did say that when we get to certain levels we would see them and we are now not far from these levels. We will see them soon enough now.

So many, many times, ad nauseam in fact, we have heard that we will rally at some point: we will rally when we test xxxx, we will rally in the summer, we will rally after October, we will rally into Christmas, we will rally in January -- just ain't happening.

I agree that for some years the bears were equally wrong. But now it is time for the negative reinforcement to make fools of the permabulls. I do not care which way she goes as long as I am not too wrong.

Yes, I think we could see a nice little bounce this week, but it will only be another sucker rally. Without getting into a pissing match, your 3 month rally has no hope imho. We'll see and good luck.
