Neither has covered themselves in glory. Bush's best approach would be to chill. Let the final votes come in and shut up until then. He almost certainly will win in any case. He's going into this already wounded, with his legitimacy questioned, so he'd better take the high road and act like a statesman now. Same for Gore, even more so. As soon as all the votes are in he should concede (assuming he's lost!) and then shut up. Bush has his work cut out for him. A split congress and a hostile public. Don't envy his position.
