Co profits are slowing (fact) but employment and wages, and consumer spending, remain very strong,

Comsumer spending has slowed a lot. Ask Wal-mart, Lowes, Best Buy, etc. Ask me. Consumer spending has slowed. That is a fact.

Lizzie you certainly have the direct exper in softtware area that I do not; I go by the employment figs. But the layoffs and failures of many of the dotcoms must be freeing up people and causing some co's to slow down their hiring plans.

Imagine what the market would have done if the productivity figs had not been so good!

Not sure re the poss slowdown in comm sector; there seem to be conflicting opinions and conflicting projections out there re where it's headed.

But even a slowdown in employment and consumer spending would be a slowdown from very high levels so they could still be too high for AG's comfort level. I do know that auto sales are slowing significantly ,however.
