Hi John,

...Does the fixed font option continue to make sense...

Absolutely. The contributors on the threads I follow put up some kind of columnar data almost every day. With different font sizes, resolutions, and window sizes on readers' desks, the only way to get the right data under the right column heading is with a fixed font.

I have no opinion on the other two points, but I would like to suggest here that SI provide some kind of supplementary keyboard navigation. The Motley Fool had it for a while back when they were at AOL, and I liked it. They recently re-introduced it at their present website. Hit Enter (or ">") and you go to the next post. It's a relief not to be making the same movements all the time - when I'm tired of the mouse I can move to the keyboard for a while.

Cheers
Frank

1. Tables & Fixed Font -- Does the fixed font option continue to make sense for SI messages and original posts? Should we allow tables for those who need them?

Yes, for both fixed font and tables.

2. Images/Sound -- I'm torn on this, but tentatively like the idea of viewing images & sound being a customizable option.

Images ( stock charts mostly ) YES, sounds, NO.

3. Profile Pages -- Does a free-for-all really make sense? On the one hand, users should be able to enhance their pages to their liking. On the other hand, Profile Pages also show the last 40 messages someone has written. It can be frustrating to wait for everything to load while I'm looking up a message.

have 2 profile pages, one for posting history and the other as an "about me " page where anything goes.

You guys shouldn't be diluting the SI franchise with free public boards, IMO. Instead you should be branching out into other topics. Create a Silicon Politics Talk, a Silicon online auction talk, a sports talk, etc. etc.

Focus on keeping threads running, and research, not vanity pages.

Is it TechStocks/g2net/infospace's plan to rival
yahoo-geocities/lycos-tripod/homestead for user home page
creation ?

I wouldn't mind any user homepage enhancements, but I would
prefer TechStocks to put its effort into keeping the
discussion threads running better, and improving investor research features.

My votes:
1. Tables & Fixed Font -- YES

2. Images/Sound -- NO

3. Profile Pages --:
No pictureS... at the most a small picture, maybe of the person.
After all, there are links to personal pages... that should be enough.

IMO

Joe
