Ted, it probably depends upon what we are defining as honesty. I am defining honesty as being truthful as in there is no intention of cheating or lying; as opposed to ballot stuffing or setting up machines to miss a certain number of votes etc.. These ballots were set up by the Democratic officeholders in PB. They had no intention of cheating anyone, much less their own party. In that sense it was honest. The end result was that some people didn't have their vote registered because the votes were confusing. That one would say is dishonest or bad luck depending upon how you look at it. From what I have heard, inadvertant errors do not demand a revote; much as a bad call by the ref doesn't change the outcome of the game. If the people who had set up the ballots were intentionaly trying to confuse people, then a revote would be likely. Personally, I think the ballots should be recounted along with the overseas ballots, and the winner should be declared, and be done with it. I don't agree with the lawsuits to stop the recount by hand. If GW loses, accept your loss and try again next time. The same goes for AL. Do the voting systems have problem; absolutely. If we revote PB, we should revote all counties in all states which had problems, not just the counties which favor Al. If we wish to go by popular votes, then we would have to recount every county in the country. In the end, both will be damaged. And contrary to what Scumbria thinks, either will do just fine as long this doesn't drag on too long. My second original point was that Bush was trying to become President-elect before the FL absentee ballots had been counted...that's why I felt he was stinking up the joint. Bush and company have now backed down from that position. Agreed, but in fairness you should have included Jessie's actions and Daley's if you want to claim impartiality because their claims of illegal ballots also are gross exaggerations of the truth. No one intentionally got cheated. It happened. What do we do about it is the question. You would think that when two of the great secretaries of state sit down on this matter, they could come up with an amiable agreement. Flip a coin, or " GW You take the presidency, we get the senate, plus you have to take Newt back, so we can win the house two yrs from now". As for the 30K ballots that are screwed up, I don't know what to do about them......at a minimum, its a fairly significant number and reflects badly on how our voting system operates. Agreed again. But I sincerely doubt if PB is the only county in the state and that only one state was affected by these types of irregularities. The old voting systems aren't accurate enough with this close of a vote to determine a clear cut winner, and no ruling by any court will make it so. We are going to have one of these guys do the noble thing and yield. Seeing as how hard it was for AL to give up a microphone during the debate; asking him to give up the country will probably be met with derision; it will have to be GW.
