Fellow Mudgeons ..

Like you, I've been following the soap-opera
"Too Close To Call"

What started out as a melo-drama has
to my surprise become a comedy and I suspect
if it 'runs' much longer .. a farce ..

A question for Bruce Brown .. Does the foreign
coverage of this election make us look as ridiculous
as it seems to me ??

No wonder the market is caving in ..

As the leader of the free world and self proclaimed
"technological" society on the planet .. I don't
believe we can 'afford' another election conducted
with "bear-skins and knives" .. No more paper ballots,
hand ballots, hanging chads, hand counts, statistical
ties that can't be verified no matter how many times
they re-count or how they do it ..

Seems to me we have computers and software to conduct
elections in a fair, uniform, and transparent tamper
proof way ..

It should be the first priority of either administration
We as the electorate should demand it .. at both
the state and federal level ..

Just watching MSNBC has convinced me that we
are the Bananna Republic ..

Jim in CT .. @anybody-up-for-a-hand-count??.com

What Did You Do in the War, Junior? By William Saletan

slate.msn.com

An excerpt:

The Times constantly compares Bush's experience to that of other Guard applicants. "Although getting into the state units was difficult for most others, Bush was soon in the Guard," says the Times. Bush got a "special commission making him an instant second lieutenant" and "was able to jump into the officer ranks without the exceptional credentials many other officer candidates possessed."The News adds that in the pilot aptitude section of the written test for pilot trainees, Bush scored "in the 25th percentile, the lowest allowed for would-be fliers." In short, when Bush's merits and treatment are examined relative to other applicants', his story looks fishy.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., "has joked that as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam he slept more soundly knowing that Bush was defending the shores of Texas from invasion."

Btw, during his period of ownership of the Texas Rangers, it is reported that he increased the value of his investment from $600K to $15M. Not a bad return for 5 years.

Right about now, that makes our G/K stocks look like cr*p.
