Re: "Of course, it's impossible to get a word in edgewise with all the election talk. I saw an AMD roadmap, yesterday, I think it was, kind of small print, green background. Anyway, I couldn't figure out from it with all the new horseys, when AMD thinks they'll have even 2-way SMP. Did you see that one?"

Do you have a link?

Tony - re: ', I couldn't figure out from it with all the new horseys, when AMD thinks they'll have even 2-way SMP. Did you see that one?'

I still think they are talking Q2 2001 (H2 01 in their "parlance") to get SMP for their existing ThumperTurds via their LONG-DELAYED but always beloved 760MP.

In actuality, their Road Map seems to have LOST a few ponies - Mustank at least - and only mentions Palomino - until it gets in to late 2001 .

At that time, the first Clamster (64 bit) appears - and it is being pre-announced as a 1-way SMP (Duh !!) or at best 2-way SMP CPU. The SludgeHumper - now due in 2002 - looks to be their 4-way and 8-way SMP horse - but their Chip Set has to be designed and debugged - and that seems to be their overall stumbling block.

All in all, their SMP road map looks bleak and weak - and they seem to be cornering themselves into the DeskTop space.

Also, they have "admitted" that their 0.13 micron process is due in Q4 2001 - so Intel is VERY POSSIBLY at least 6 months ahead of them in technology. However, they seem hell-bent-for-leather to put an SOI module on their 0.13 micron process - so my guess is that may delay them an ADDITIONAL 6 months!!

Go Intel !
