It is theater, no question about it. And, at this point it is governed by Florida State laws and procedures. Hand recounts are nothing new in Florida. We have them in almost every razor thin election. The surprising thing to me is how the Bush campaign with all those lawyers and with Jeb being governor missed asking for hand recounts in predominantly Republican counties.

But I don't cry for Bush (though I voted for him somewhat reluctantly). As I said, it was a Democratic functionary that designed the disastrous for Democrats Palm Beach county ballot. That was a far more stupid act than Bush not asking in time for hand recounts everywhere.

Of the hand counting procedure, Florida Republican Party Vice-Chairman Jim Stelling said "It gives more integrity to our ballots than any other county in the state of Florida."

Yup, they loved it just yesterday for GOP controlled Seminole County, to which Mr. Stelling is referring.
