With the afternoon hand recount failing to turn up sufficient numbers of "irregularities," the "non-partisan" election officials changed the rules of engagement late in the day, adopting a more liberal interpretation of intent. They are going to go back and recount once again the ballots they just counted. Wonder who these "officials" voted for?

No question about it. The will of the people is the last thing that either side cares about. Here is my estimate of what numbers the Palm Beach count recount will produce. Typically, hand recounts look only at ballots that expressed no preference and produce a 0.5% increase in the overall vote. The recounted vote invariably is divided among the candidates in the same percentage as the machine counted ballots. So, given that Gore had a 27% advantage over Bush and that 460,000 votes were cast I expect that a complete hand recount will produce a net gain of 620 votes for Gore. If this is repeated in Broward and Dade counties, then Gore will gain an additional 1080 and 260 votes respectively for a total of 1960 votes, easily overwhelming Bush's current lead, including any overseas ballots. This explains the rather desperate Bush attempt to stop the hand count via a federal court order -- which will certainly be dismissed very quickly. Kyros
