Thank you, Tim. With respect to a complete recount, I guess Dubya decided to let well enough alone. You don't change what's winning. It's the classic double-edged sword - you could make it better, you could make it worse. If it's good enough, stick with what you've got.

<<GWB may have made a mistake in not requesting a statewide hand count before the deadline.>> It was definitely a mistake, as the filing of the injunction request has invalidated their earlier stance of being the less litigious party. Now they will appear to be attempting to interfere with Florida's election process.
The argument that manual counting is less accurate is weak, considering that manual recounting has apparently been endorsed in Texas and other states as the preferred method of resolving close elections.
On the other hand, if the Democrats, as they claim, are interested in establishing the most accurate count, they should endorse an extension of the deadline for requesting recounts. I doubt that would be allowed under Florida law, however.
I wonder if the distraction of the outrageous proposed revote has caused the Bush team to overlook some important and more mundane points in the election proceedings, which, after all, are still unfolding. Instead of trying to appear presidential and calling for Gore to concede, they should have been making sure they had this thing nailed down. I don't think you can call this "stealing" an election, as the scraps were on the table for the taking, but it's close, if it works.
