Hi Charlie, the 384kbps average rate was tossed around for some time, see caj0nes white paper, for example. Now I see the Adventis paper quotes an 'average' speed of 256kbps although it continues on to say 'with burst speeds of 792kbps'. Perhaps the company would rather be conservative and not promise too much at first, just like they aren't promising 176kbps right now, although many users can get that.

Reading the Adventis paper, they suggest that part of the speed bump next year may come from using more of the 2.4GHz spectrum for the links from the microcell radio to the WAP. It could be that this will free up more of the 902-928MHz spectrum to be used for the links from the users to the microcells. The company isn't quite telling all, so we are left to speculate until we get clarification. The new modems might also allow for a more densely packed signal space (e.g., 32QAM ?) which packs more information into each transmitted pulse.

Regards, Rich
