I would bet (guess) that they are in the market for an IC company. It is a niche they are missing a strong position in within their broad product line.

You may be right that a purchase will be seen as negative short term. But, as they said during the CC, the time to buy with cash is when stock prices are low. From a long term perspective, a near term purchase looks positive.
