RECOUNT CASE JUDGES GAVE $ TO DEMS
Sunday,November 12,2000

By WILLIAM J. GORTA

The two judges at the center of the hand-count controversy
in Florida not only have Clinton-Gore connections, but
have seen money from their households find their way to
Democratic campaigns.

Federal District Judge Donald Middlebrooks - who will
hear a case from the Bush campaign on whether to stop a
recount in Palm Beach County - contributed a total of
$1,250 to the 1992 and 1996 Clinton-Gore campaigns.

State Judge Kathleen Kroll - who gave the initial green light
to the recount - is married to Jonathan Low, an employee
in the federal Department of Labor who bucked up $2,500
to the Gore 2000 campaign.

Middlebrooks is the better known of the pair - and lawyers
for Dubya, hoping to block hand-counting, had better look
sharp and speak softly when they make their case in his
courtroom.
