It was indeed curious that throughout this entire Florida event the Republicans let all the discussion be on the heavily Democratic counties. Gore's lawyers and strategists were just more "on the ball" than Bush's.

The Bush team must have thought they could just sit back and let the electoral process run its course. They didn't understand what Daley meant when he said "the campaign continues!"

How is it possible that after 8 years of Clinton/Gore, Republicans haven't learned that in some people's view the law is just a means to an end, something to be twisted and contorted such that it becomes a passage to a desired result that is precisely opposed to what the law was intended to regulate?

Now we'll have at least 4 more years of that style of government.

GOP has already had recount done in New Mexico in GOP stronghold thereby tying the election, maybe even going ahead. It is hypocrisy now for them to state that hand recounting in Florida is dangerous and shoddy. Dangerous to their chances of taking the presidency maybe but more accurate than machine counting, especially as two people, a Dem and a Repub inspect each hand-counted ballot before it is tabulated. The process is on full-time video feed. The press and experts are watching. True, it was a collosal blunder for the GOP to assume victory too early and thereby miss their chance to recount in GOP strongholds in Florida. WHile tyhey were wasting their time trying to take New Mexico back the Dems may have taken the upperhand in Florida. I predict Gore will gain 2,000-3,000 votes by the hand counts. Then he will lead but will it be enough to out-numbered expected absentee ballot gains by the GOP? Maybe so as the word is Jews in Israel and other countries with Florida residency may account for a large percentage of the overseas vote and will go 90% for Gore-Lieberman (because of Leiberman of course).

If Gore wins Florida, Bush will have no choice but to demand recounts in Iowa, Wisconsin and Oregon. Can the Dems recount New Hampshire? Bush would need to take back Wisconsin and Oregon in addition to New Mexico. I'd say his chances of doing that are minimal.

Unless Baker somehow convinces a judge to stop the manual recounting (sure to be challenged all the way to the Supreme Court if he succeeds) look out for a very close squeaker which may give Gore Florida and the election.
Wow.
