many reasons for incomplete ballot hole punch:

- weak hands
- feeble mind being afraid of asserting oneself at all
- misaligned overlay with ballot card
- unintended placement of punch tool before sure of what they are doing
- changing their minds and NOT wanting that vote afterall

ASSUMING A VOTE FROM PARTIAL PUNCH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
a terrible precedent
we cannot read their minds

whatever happens in Florida, one thing is for certain
a UNIFORM criterion must be used across all counties

ballot hole punching is NOT a mental incompetence issue

here we are in year2000 with voting methods at least 30 yrs old

You repeat the same basic argument: that anyone who didn't punch properly or completely is intellectually inferior, and therefore should be disregarded.

No, I think what they are saying is that the rules, set ahead of time, said that if you want your vote to register, you have to punch the hole all the way through. Some didn't punch the hole all the way through. Therefore their vote did not, and should not, register.

These are the same rules that apply for the lotto, for the SAT, and for just about anything else and I can't remember it ever being contested.

Now the Democrats want to selectively change the rules after the fact. The new rule is: if you voted in a heavily democratic district, and you didn't punch the hole all the way through, someone else will decide your intent and register your vote for you. And they will continue to decide voter's intents until the election goes their way. Oh, and as a corollary, the rule change also says that if you voted in a heavily republican district, and didn't punch the hole all the way through, that's tough shit.

Okay, I may have overstated the "inferior intelligence" part of this equation. Regardless, my argument that there were rules in place, however, remains the same. It does not matter, after the fact, that the ballot could have been a little clearer. It was pre-approved and therefore this ballot, just as every other ballot, falls under those same rules. Have you never made a mistake on a test, or putting something together, or in a game which cost you a higher grade, or ruined your project, or lost you the game? AFTER the fact, you could even "prove" that based on what you were thinking because of how something was presented to you, that it was an "honest mistake." BUT, you still lost BECAUSE THOSE WERE THE RULES IN EFFECT at the time of what you were doing? How many football games were lost because the rules say the referees make the judgment call and later, tapes PROVE that they made the wrong call? Did you ever see them go back and change the result? NO! And why? Because we live in a society with rules. If the rules prove to be inferior, then they change the rules -- i.e. the challenge tapes in football now. Nothing is perfect, but if we allow the loser in this election to keep changing the rules until he gets the desired outcome, then a Pandora's box will have been opened which will have far-reaching effects we will all regret.

p.s. How about this solution? The Republicans and Democrats split into two separate countries. Each can rule themselves as they see fit. Watch how fast ALL of the so-called upper-class Democrats (I call them dictators and manipulators of the less-intelligent or at least less-informed masses) want to live in the Republican country. How are you going to run a Democratic country full of nothing but "programs" and "takers" when you have no "givers" (whether by choice or at the point of a federal IRS gun)left? I'd love to see how much money percentage wise these people like Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, Brady, the movie stars, etc. all give away to help those less fortunate. They make a donation of $100,000 and everybody swoons. I know people running businesses that donate greater than 10% to worthy causes -- this even after the government has robbed them blind to support all the Democrats that can't fill out a ballot properly! I'm sorry, but to give to help others is one thing, but achievers are getting fed up with a government official living like a king, while taking their hard-earned, long hours of sweat-produced money and sending it to their own pocket and then the leftovers to someone they pulled off the streets with free food to get a vote. If you can't see the hypocrisy and manipulation by the Democratic leadership of their own so-called "people" then I feel sorry for you.

I remain,

SOROS
