on FL absentees, how many are there? .. more than expected

heard on CNN last night that Manatee County had already received over 300 absentee ballots
not sent out, BUT RECEIVED

Manatee is FtMyers
I could be wrong about Manatee County, but it was described as a smaller county
Florida has 67 counties

Florida may have 25,000 absentee ballots to count
California might be similar to FL in makeup of absentees coming largely from military and overseas business folks
I also think Florida might have many absentees retirees who are still up north with family
Thanksgvg marks the primetime for SnowBirds to migrate south

Calif has said that absentees are going 2:1 for Bush so far, narrowing the lead enough possibly to warrant removing the state and its 54 ECvotes from the Gore column

if Florida'a absentees come in almost 2:1 Bush over Gore, then much of what we have seen in WPalmBch might be irrelevant

if FL Absentees give Bush a +3000 or +5000 lift, who cares about all the illiterates, crybabies, feeble fingered elderly, confused conmen, and otherwise spoiled brat disenfranchised boobs in WestPalm ???

IF YOU CAN READ THIS POST, YOU MUST BE REPUBLICAN

a tactical error by Bush not to request a hand recount in EVERY county in FLorida

Jim, I just hope they can still get one. That appears to be the only fair way to settle this mess. Any other solution will still leave a dark cloud. At least with a manual recount of the invalid ballots could speed things up and we could be out of this mess, even if it is completed a month from now. At least we will see the end in sight under such a resolution by Florida.

Every other alternative looks very uncertain.

If an IBM designed ballot was designed to be read by an IBM counting machine accuratly, how could a hand counted ballot be considered any more reliable?

Example, going out on a limb;

If I'm a pretzel salesman (or a crack dealer) on a street corner and I walk into my bank at the end of a day of selling with a stack of one dollar bills 24" thick. Who would I trust to gain an efficient reliable count of my money? The counting machine or the teller?

I trust both to give me the same results!

So what's the point of a third count?

Please let us know who our President is by this Friday.

Jim,

>>"a tactical error by Bush not to request a hand recount in EVERY county in FLorida"<<

It is possible that the Bush team have decided that it is indeed a slippery slope to join in this street fight. Maybe they choose to stick to the high road while only responding to actions of the Daley/Gore campaign.

I'm several hours behind, so I may be totally wrong if there are new developments.

I must admit, I'm enjoying your prolific contribution to this debate thus far..... witty, acerbic, intelligent, emotional & stimulating.
