Jay, as I have stated a number of times on this thread, these problems worry me. I was of the opinion that the situation would ne held with "spit and chewing gum" until the beginning of the year. Maybe with the crisis we are facing here, we might have an earlier ignition of these problems. What the article does not mention, is the inability this time, of the US economy to serve as an engine of regrowth for the rest of the world. We have stretched our trade imbalances to the breaking point and will not be able to pump into these economies the $100 to $200 additional buying we did last year. Our trade deficit is rapidly approaching $300 B per year and that is becoming too much. before we know it, the accumulated trade deficits will slow our economy into a major recession.
