The absurdity of all this is the way in which Democrats are saying "let the voice of the people be heard". The method employed by Gore's 200 person legal team, is designed to do the exact opposite. Here is a summary of many different legal thoughts around the net on this situation...

Allowing for manual recounts in only one, two, or three counties in Florida is unconstitutional because it dilutes the votes of Florida citizens. If we were talking about a county only vote, such as a vote for a State Senate position, then it would be constitutional because all votes would be treated the same.

However, in this case, we are talking about an entire state. Therefore, unless every county is recounted, you are diluting the votes of Florida citizens.

Second, in order that we not violate the first and fourteenth amendment, a standard must be consistent in regard to the recount. We have already seen in WPB the standard change twice. Without a common standard ascribed to the manual recount, we are placing a subjective decision in the hands of government officials in charge of the process in each county. That is a violation of the first amendment, and the fourteenth amendment, the right to vote.

When a state allows a manual recount system that is different from county to county, then it will result in unequal treatment of the votes for state-wide elections.

This could go all the way to the supreme court folks. And if it does, the methods used will invalidate the Florida election results.

That's what the Gore people want. They knew the overseas, mostly military vote, was moving strongly against them, and the last thing they wanted was the military to select the next Commander in Chief.
