Hi Cobalt,

so I believe that if Gore's win is fair and square or vice versa if Bush's win is fair and square, Congress will Do The Right Thing.
The way I see it, we are way beyond fair-and-square, we are at winning-is-everything. So I expect a tremendous amount of legal wrangling and political jostling this coming week as each party presses for its own advantage and simultaneously feigns hurt over the actions of the other. Should be amusing, if one has a cast iron stomach. As far as Congress doing the Right Thing... Hmmm, are we being a bit disingenuous here? It's a slam dunk if we get that far, and it's got nothing to do with Right-and-Wrong, currently Republicans-220, Dems-211. Congress won't do the Right Thing, it will do the Math Thing.

Last night I was ready to send Republican litigants to every state that Gore won so no one could vote, because Gore had a majority of Electors without Florida, but now I've changed my mind.
Thanks, I was about to propose a new screen name for you, sandingears.

If there's an honest dispute about which Electors vote is legitimate, let Congress sort it out.
There you go again. 220-211. <vbg> Getting nervous about the courts? I read the "Complaint for Declaratory and Injuctive Relief" that you so graciously provided last night. Even I could create credible counter-arguments for all five claims for injunctive relief. Frankly, I was surprised how transparent and weak the arguments were.

This just in? I don't know if this is new, but I just learned that the Volusia County Canvassing Board has just sued the Florida Secretary of State for injunctive relief to the demand that certified vote totals be presented to the State Election Commission by 5PM Tuesday. Gotta hand it to them Dems. Clever to avoid using Palm Beach County for this counter-injunctive remedy because of the controversy surrounding Palm Beach County.

Baker demands that we stop all these shenanigans. Asking a Daley to stop shenanigans is like asking Jimmy Swaggart to give up preaching. Ain't gonna happen.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CNN just ran a segment with Donald Weidener (R.), Attorney-At-Law from Jacksonville. He stated the the actions of the Volusia County Canvassing Board will be considered on the basis of 1996 precedent that hand counting is the best way to resolve disputes arising from difficulties with the voting machines. He discounted any argument from Palm Beach County residents on the basis of voter confusion. Furthermore, he stated that should the certified results indicate that Gore wins statewide, the Republicans have 10 days from the date of State certification to file for relief from the Circuit Court Judge. So, I was wrong about the Republicans having lost the right to hand count their best counties. They will most likely get that relief in the next week or two.
Time to hunker down, we've hardly started. <g>
Best, Ray
I thought we were in agreement that until all state vote totals have been made official, that the legislative bodies should back off.
The Constitution has a contingency plan in place until one candidate is qualified. The House can have Hastert serve as Acting Pres and the Senate(who knows who they'll pick) can appoint an Acting VP.
Hastert, as Speaker of the House, is more than qualified to serve in an Acting capacity.
