If state officials don't allow a statewide manual count, let me do my best Karnak-impression here to close. "Hmmmm. I see the Palm Beach vote swinging the election decisively to Al Gore. Jesse Jackson will become a staunch advocate of the finality of the voting process. The lawsuits against the butterfly ballot will vanish."

Dave,

You may be right but I doubt it. While the main issue seems to be about winning, there is another issue at play which is winning fairly. That apparently has taken a back seat in some people's minds but for others its major. I would not be surprised to see a major overhaul of the voting process including the equipment we use before the next presdential election.

Its fun to be cynical on these occasions and mock our form of government but I suggest you read excerpts from the Constitution. Our founding fathers may have been perverts and the biggest a$$holes in the world, but they believed they were doing something special.....it is evident in the words they carefully chose and the ideals they picked to guide us and to be our goals.
