Do people honestly believe that the US government will collapse if someone doesn't back down? The fear on the part of Bush voters is understandable....they are fearful that Bush will lose in any recount. Its the fear of some Democrats that is confusing. I suspect it goes back to when you were a kid and disobeying authority or going against the wishes of some of your peers led to some kind of unpleasant retribution or worse, anarchy. I think the only thing more feared than anarchy is death. There are lots of very fearful people out there these days. We need to get everybody off their butts, and get our there and do something useful, instead of trying to protect their comfortable lives in front of the cable TV. Yeah, that's exactly right...the system has worked, for the most part, pretty smoothly for many, many years. That's why the percentage of votes cast in national elections has dropped consistently over the past 20 years. And if you have never worked on an election campaign, you would never know how much room there is to corrupt the process. And when the issue did come up, it would be in local races where the consequences were only significant to the people who lived in the effected jurisdiction. Unfortunately, its been my experience that when you don't fix a problem it only gets worse. So it was inevitable that we would encounter a confrontation of this magnitude. And yes, people need to get that you have to partipate to insure that you don't get screwed. We seem to know it in business but not in our politics and governing. ted
