I have heard that these totals include cases where the voter
found the mistake immediately and requested a new ballot. If
that is the case, it is not fair to assume that all of these
are from voters that ultimately did not get to cast a valid vote.

There is a lot of spin being put out on both sides and I am
going to reserve judgement until the process is complete.

On a different point, it seems to me that since the House
and the Senate are so narrowly divided, that whoever
ultimately becomes president will not get tax and spending
plans they put forth in the campaign. Is this good news?
Could the best scenario be that the two sides argue about how
to spend the surplus for a few years and we can actually pay
down some of the debt?
