Josh. Makes perfect sense. Fear & Greed control the tape, not logic/eom.

<<doesn't make sense to me that stocks should sell off b/c of some election problem. We're going to have a new prez, and we'll all laugh at this tortured whining from the Dems in a few months>>

Archi...gotta disagree with you here.

The '73-74 Bear market had 3 main origins: 1) Higher oil prices due to the first oil shock, 2) Political instability/uncertainty due to Watergate/Nixon, and 3)inflation. (It was also due in part due to unwinding of a bit of a bubble in the "Nifty 50" typ stocks).

It's clear we have markedly higher energy prices. It also seems clear that inflation has increased relative to the last few years. The 3rd piece of the puzzle is in place...serious questions over presidential succession. The latter is important in that it may represent the final straw that breaks the foreign investors back and stimulates repatriation of foreign funds. It's an absolute toxic waste dump for stocks....

Josh...after reading your post a bit closer, I see that we don't really disagree. You believe that the election fiasco only unmasked some weaknesses not yet priced into the market. I agree...and agree that a relief rally when or if it comes will only bring us back to trend lines that are only now breaking (ie, in the NasDaq Composite, NDX and SPX).

You are probably correct. That is no one wants to buy because of uncertainty, and people do want to sell because they are worried. The result is the market falls. Later, when the uncertainty becomes more certain, they have cash and buy again. The only concern is if they will buy again. I agree with you that it is time to buy. I have, like the masses, not bought anything for a week or so.
I haven't sold anything either.
